Maybe it's because I spend most of my lunches with Raymond...or perhaps it's because I'm all grown up (so I need to be careful of what I eat),...it could be that I realize that I have five children and I want to be healthy and see them grow....but I'm really considering a huge change in my diet. My buddy, who owns Elevation Burger (www.elevationburger.com), was telling me how when he used to work on Capitol Hill for a Congressman in 1999 that he came across information about people dying....10,000 people per year (at that time) because when they got sick, and needed antibiotics to heal them, it didn't take. The findings demonstrated that because there are so much antibiotics being pumped into cows and chickens, that when we partake of such delicacies, we ingest the same antibiotics and it causes our systems to reject antibiotics over time. Now I have no proof, but if I had time, I'd try to find out for sure...but it's certainly plausible. That was 1999. Currently, according to my Hamburger-making friend (which happens to be organic meat - of course), the number is up to 100,000. Congress in 1999 decided to resolve the problem by asking pharmaceutical companies to produce more antibiotics, rather than stop the injecting of antibiotics into chickens and cows. But those companies don't create more antibiotics, because they don't make money from them. So we are stuck. Whatever the specifics are - which I'm sure there are more details -that's enough viable hearsay to make me want to switch. Now even though my wife and chuh-jae (little sister in law) have been preaching this for a while, and forcing me to buy whole foods organic-no-antibiotic (because free-range chickens still get pumped with ab's?) meat....i guess it took an outsider to convince me. Plus, the whole cloned cow meat thing that just got passed by the FDA - allowing meat from cloned cows to be sold - without telling the consumer it comes from a cloned cow (information provided by my wife)....makes me feel yucky. So....no more meat outside of the home or elevation burger. Definitely not for the kids. That's what I'm doing.... No wonder meat at those Korean supermarkets are so cheap...I wonder where they get their meat from? want to make some serious 'bank' (it's a new term i recently learned from a 18 year old)? Organic restaurant, distribution, supplier, ....maybe a farm.... Now,... who's with me (about any or all of the above)?? btw....what did i tell you ? "watch out for the bear's special teams and Hester...." - better listen to me more |
